Back to school
Going back to school after vacation can be one of the most trying ordeals of a young student’s life. If you’re that student, be encouraged by the fact that you could employ strategies to ensure that you’re adequately prepared to get back into the swing of things. The more prepared you are to go back to school, the better your chances of actually feeling excited about it. The key is to prepare as early as possible.

* Prepare your outfits. One of the best ways to get yourself excited to go back to school is to have around one or two new back-to-school outfits. If you have the budget for it, purchase new outfits, but do take advantage of back-to-school sales at your local mall. Another option is to “shop your closet”. That is, take about two hours (or more, if necessary) to rearrange your closet and mix and match items that you would never have ordinarily thought of putting together. This is an especially good idea if you’re interested in making a new image for yourself after the school break.

* Reclaim your study area. Chances are your study table has become either dusty due to disuse or swamped with non-academic items. It’s time to get your desk back in shape. The objective here is to consolidate all your school items back into your designated area for studying. Place all your books, notebooks, writing tools and electronic gadgets back onto your desk. It’s best that you arrange all your things horizontally (such as in between bookends) rather than vertically (in piles). This is one great tip for you to maintain the organization of your desk all throughout the school year.

* Take a look at your schedule. You may have forgotten how your class schedule looks like. Sit down and review your daily schedule. Look at your calendar for the month so you could remember any upcoming events, deadlines and obligations.

* Browse through your notes and books. If you’re going back to school after Christmas break, for example, it’s a good idea for you to review your notes from the previous months. Most of the time, teachers will lose no time getting their students back to their lesson, even if it’s just the first day after a mid-school year break. To get a head start, warm yourself up and review past lessons on your own.

* Have something to look forward to for school. Apart from the physical and cognitive preparations you make, it’s great if you prepare yourself emotionally as well. Think of an event that you are looking forward to in school. If you can’t think of any such an event, you could make one: schedule a lunch or after-school movie date with your closest classmates. Mark this event in your calendar. This way, every time you do a countdown towards the resumption of classes, you will also be counting down towards another, more highly-anticipated event.

The better prepared you are for getting back to school the more excited you will be at the prospect of it. That’s why it’s great if you can allot at least two days before school starts for this entire process. Good luck! ***
